Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

My Review
Alice in Wonderland is my favorite classic. So when I heard of an Alice in Wonderland retelling with zombies in it, I was super excited to read it. Plus, I really like the cover.

Ali was a really annoying character to read about at first. She was just really awkward and depressed. And that really drove me crazy. But then when she realized she could hunt the zombies, she got better. She became happier, knowing that she could destroy the things that had caused her families deaths. And at the end of the book, I started to like her. I'm still not sure of my feelings toward Kat. She was not the best friend I pictured Ali needing, but I guess she was good for her because Kat helped her out when she was in some really tough spots. I also really liked Cole. At first, I didn't like him at all, but when Ali got to know him I really really liked him. I also really liked the romace between Ali and Cole, but not at first.

The beginning of this book was not the best. The first chapters were really good, but when Ali started going to school I thought that this book was just going to be a cheesy romance where the hot boy falls for the new awkward girl. I was not looking forward to that, but I decided to finish the book and I'm glad I did. Because when Cole told Ali about the zombies, everything got better. There was more action, less school, and more of the zombies that I picked the book up for. And the last few chapters off the book really had me hooked.

One of the most enjoyable parts about this book was definitely the zombies. These aren't just your average I want to eat your brains zombies. These zombies are spirits that want to get ride of all the good and happiness in the world. And I thought that was a very interesting take on them. I also thought it was cool that there were some people who could see them and others couldn't.

The writing style was pretty good too. Ali always had witty things that she was either saying or thinking and I found that to be pretty enjoyable. She did great character development throughout the book and her take on zombies was really interesting.

Rating: 5/5 worms
I really, really liked this book at the end and I really can't wait for the next one.
